Will You Be Swept Away By The Negotiation Tsunami?

Warning, a negotiation tsunami is occurring throughout the world. As such, a lot of corporations and individuals are allowing their negotiation sky to fall. A negotiation tsunami has been surging for quite some time. It began in the form of savvy individuals and cutting edge corporations increasing their knowledge of negotiation. Those entities have become poised to out-negotiate those who are complacent with their current negotiation skills.

In the worldwide recession, that has gripped corporations and individuals, everyone is dealing with the premise of doing more with less. As such, those entities that increase their capacity to negotiate more stringently are and will continue to outdistance those that allow their negotiation skills to remain stagnant. In many situations, organizations while cutting overhead and negotiation training to the bone are not aware of the severe damage they’re doing to their bottom line.

The problem initiated in most organizations when management felt it could get by with the negotiation skill sets that existed within the corporation. As time progressed, management considered the enhancement of the organization’s negotiation skills as a nice to have. Individuals felt a need to stretch their resources, but declined to consider the valuable role that negotiation plays to assist them in achieving their goals. In most organizations, management has failed to realize the overall value that can be gained by enhancing the core negotiation skills of its human resource, and the value that such activity has on the company’s bottom line.

As a key component in your organization and in your personal life, where do you stand when it comes to enhancing your negotiation skills?

I wrote an article recently in which the question was posed, do the Chinese negotiate differently and/or better than people in other countries? Respondents from several LinkedIn Chinese groups that have conducted business in China indicated that the Chinese take negotiation seriously and commit to learning the art of negotiation from a very young age; it’s a skill they continue to enhance throughout their lives. The Chinese are not the only people that commit to such strenuous efforts to improve their corporate and private plight.

Where does this leave you and your organization? If you personally become proactive about developing your negotiation skills, you will avoid becoming antiquated and you’ll be able to ascend to higher positions within the corporation. You have time to become a better negotiator, but you need to access the time you have and start increasing your negotiation skills, now! To slack in this endeavor will be akin to recklessly flirting with negativity, as it relates to your future opportunities. I’m sure that’s not a position in which you wish to find yourself.

Those individuals and corporations that seek to succeed in the future will heed this information. If you’re of like-mindedness, you’ll commit to securing your future, that of your corporation, and your life style balance.

Become a better negotiator! Increase your negotiation skills right now! Do so by increasing your knowledge as to when and how to use the appropriate negotiation strategy and tactic. In so doing, you’ll be better positioned to take advantage of future opportunities that will be presented to you… and everything will be right with the world. Remember, you’re always negotiating.

“The best way to predict the future is to create it.” – Peter Drucker

The Negotiation Tips Are…

In creating your future, gather what you need today to build the environment in which you’ll live tomorrow. Increase your chances of achieving that future by knowing how to negotiate better in life’s situations.

Preparation is a key ingredient in every negotiation. The better you prepare, by knowing how to use the appropriate strategy in the proper situation, the better you’ll become at negotiating.

If you negotiated like your life depended upon the outcome, you’d take the time to learn to negotiate better. Guess what, your life does depend on it!

Negotiating With Web Designers – Saving Money in All Project Phases

It is a commonly held belief that first impressions are made within the first few seconds of an encounter and it is no different when it comes to web pages. With most Americans being on the internet, well crafted website design is critical to success of any business.

Do you have a small budget but big web design dreams? Don’t fret! This guide will highlight what is negotiable and what is non-negotiable with your web designer. Walking into the negotiation with a plan of what are feasible points of compromise will lead to a better rate of negotiation success in the long run.
First things first, what part of the “web design” process are you in? Typically, the process involves the consultation “creative” phase, design phase, and then maintenance for the finished product. Each phase must be treated as a separate entity and allows for different points of negotiation. Where you are in the process will affect how much leverage you have.

1. Just Starting: What to Talk About. If you are just starting out and have yet to meet with your web designer, you have the most wiggle room for negotiations. During your first meeting with your web designer (which may require a consultation fee), you will talk about the goal of your site and the general mood you want to convey. This is a critical part of the meeting, come prepared with ideas of what you want to accomplish and what you definitely what to include. The rest of the meeting will cover the specifics of the project such as a project timeline, price points and logistical issues. These last three talking points may not seem as significant as the site’s appearance but will greatly influence your relationship with your web designer. Make sure you are both in agreement.

2. Negotiation Time. Splitting the contract into phases gives you the best deal as well as flexibility if you decide to switch to a different designer. By splitting the contract into the different phases, you pay a contract price rather than an hourly rate. The preliminary contract could be just the basics such as a blueprint for the page and the design of the homepage only. The reason this is significant is that you can now switch to another company or renegotiate the initial terms now that you have idea of how the graphic designer works.

Paying hourly generally becomes expensive, if you can, try to have the whole project as a contract rate. If you pay for the entire project as a contract rate, you may need to pay some upfront costs for the designer to starts and will probably be required to pay in installments.

3. Contract: The contract does not need to include the very specifics of what the website’s appearance but should detail what is expected of each party. For example, the text color is not something that needs to be delineated in the contract. Things such as payment periods, timing, ownership rights and a breach of contract agreement need to be discussed in your contract. Ownership rights are important! Make sure you purchase the rights to your logo and anything else that is clearly identifiable as belonging to your company.

4. Contract is Signed, Design Work Complete: Negotiation Still Possible. Although it may feel like you have no room for negotiation because the project is “done”, you still have space for negotiations. This is particularly true if you are working with a smaller or free lance web designer. Places for negotiating include extending your contract (for a discount) or hiring your designer to do the web hosting or maintenance for your site (granted, this is only an option if you did not agree to this in your initial contract). Ask if you can pay a lower installment or if you can earn discounts if you refer clients or trade services.

What Makes Your Resume Presentable?

A candidate how so ever well qualified he is can not get recruited until and unless his resume captivates the attention of the recruiters. Having a resume is not sufficient. It should be such which magnetizes the attention of the recruiters and compel them to go through it. Making your resume attractive doesn’t mean that your resume should be colorful with tables inserted and lots of pictures inserted. This would rather make the recruiter keep aside your resume in the first place.

To evade this from happening your cv should cover the following aspects:-

• It should be professionally built.
• Should be clean and clear.
• Last but not the least, it should be relevant.

The first step of your resume built up is that it should be professional. By professional cv we don’t mean that it should look professional with a big list of education qualifications. What ever be your school or university education, your application should be professional in the aspects of its presentation. It is your which will put forward your potentialities. This is the voice for your abilities, skills, experience and your worth for the organization.

It should be professional in respect of both paper and ink. It includes plane white crisp paper with dark ink.

The second step to make it presentable is that it should be clean and clear. With clean I mean that it should not include tables or unnecessary lines. A resume should enclose only the content or basic information about the candidate. The resume should be painless to read, easy to run an eye down and inviting. Tables and columns should be avoided.

While preparing a resume you should try to make maximum use of bullets, paragraphs and headings. Always remember that a recruiter is very busy with a huge pile of resumes with him. One thing which will grab his attention toward your resume would be these three things. With bullets, a recruiter can easily go through the main points which you want him to read.

This will further make him go through your resume and thus result in your short listing.Last but not the least, make your resume relevant. This includes exclusion of unrelated, irrelevant and miscellaneous information. Only that information should be included which is applicable to your job profile.

Your resume is the one which put forward your caliber and potentialities in front of the recruiters or we can say that your resume speaks for you..!!!
